Under the auspices of the French Embassy in the United States and the Villa Albertine in Washington, the association American Friends of Chartres and the Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown (Washington, D.C.) invite you to the free concert by the “Vocal Five” in the choir of Chartres Cathedral on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 4:30 PM.
The “VOCAL FIVE”: Outstanding voices from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in an exceptional concert
The Vocal Five is a high-level vocal ensemble comprised of five seniors from the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C., one of the nation’s leading public high schools and conservatories. Founded to provide young people from all social and economic backgrounds with a dual academic and arts education, the school provides access to the finest institutions of higher learning.
For three years, the young singers of the ensemble have followed an intensive classical singing program, perfecting their vocal technique, developing a deep understanding of the repertoire, and building a strong artistic cohesion. Each of them brings their own uniqueness, but all share a passion for classical music and a deep commitment to excellence.
The Vocal Five has performed extensively, including at the Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown, the Museum of the Bible, and the French Embassy for the Fête de la Musique.
Their repertoire spans several centuries of classical music, from the Renaissance to the contemporary era. The July 17 concert program will feature works by Italian, French, and American composers, including Claudio Monteverdi, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Moses Hogan, Florence Price, Mason Bates, and John Adams.

Les “VOCAL FIVE” : l’excellence vocale de la Duke Ellington School of the Arts en concert exceptionnel
Les Vocal Five sont un ensemble vocal de haut niveau composé de cinq élèves de terminale de la prestigieuse Duke Ellington School of the Arts à Washington, D.C., l’un des principaux lycées-conservatoires publics des États-Unis. Fondée pour offrir à des jeunes issus de tous horizons sociaux et économiques une double formation, à la fois académique et artistique, cette école permet à ses élèves d’accéder aux meilleures institutions d’enseignement supérieur.
Depuis trois ans, les jeunes chanteuses de l’ensemble ont suivi un parcours intensif en chant classique, perfectionnant leur technique vocale, développant une compréhension approfondie du répertoire et construisant une forte cohésion artistique. Chacune d’entre elles apporte sa singularité, mais toutes partagent une même passion pour la musique classique et un engagement constant en faveur de l’excellence.
Le Vocal Five s’est illustré lors de nombreux concerts, notamment à la Holy Trinity Church de Georgetown, au Museum of the Bible, ainsi qu’à l’Ambassade de France, à l’occasion de la Fête de la musique.
Leur répertoire embrasse plusieurs siècles de musique classique, de la Renaissance à l’époque contemporaine. Le programme du concert du 17 juillet mettra à l’honneur des œuvres de compositeurs italiens, français et américains, parmi lesquels Claudio Monteverdi, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Moses Hogan, Florence Price, Mason Bates et John Adams.
