Lycée Rochambeau CP/1st grade: Creating a faux-stained-glass window

In May 2025, AFC worked with first graders at Lycée Rochambeau in Bethesda, MD, on a special project exploring stained glass at Chartres Cathedral. Students began with an interactive presentation about the history of the Cathedral and techniques of stained glass, connecting directly to their science and history curriculum. They then took part in a hands-on workshop where, in small groups, they recreated individual stained-glass panels using photographic colored paper. Once assembled, the student-made panels formed a single large collaborative artwork.
This project was later featured during the school’s Medieval Day celebration in June, further enriching their learning and tying beautifully into the event’s theme.

Thank you to Elodie, the CP teacher!
