Lecture 1: Chartres Overview by Mike Klug

In the first of his intimate talks, Mike introduces us to Chartres by placing the cathedral in its geographical, historical and architectural context. He then turns to his passion for iconography and reads three stained glass windows and their panels, deciphering meaning through images, symbols, colors and attributes and acknowledging the very different sources used by artists of medieval art. Finally, he makes connections to architecture in America, where elements of Chartres’ iconography can be recognized.
